I also think that Jude's progression through life is felt cumbersome for him and the rest of whom surround him. I thought sometimes it could be a turning point for improvement coming from him, dealings with his demons but his character never copes with them. I am not sure if that is very realistic, a person summoned to such hell will not have survive or escalated in persosnal life so high as he does.
