Jacqueline McAlister Scott- I am totally speechless! I can’t believe you answered me! Thank you so very much for taking the time to respond. It so happens that I am a public school teacher working in a middle school labeled “High Poverty” by the state of New Jersey. I am a literature teacher working with 8th grade struggling readers and a lot of my work centers around creating a culture of reading. We frequently discuss the art and skill of authors and what constitutes good writing. Whenever my students are reading, I make a big show of reading my book alongside the kids so that they understand that reading is not a chore but a practice that can bring immense pleasure into life. Literature is sometimes their only escape. During our “turn and talk” segments, I kept telling my students about your novel and they followed along my abridged re-telling of your story. The kids were rapt by the plot and they were fascinated with the idea of “gods” being earthly people. We had a lot of discussions about how your story reminded us of Greek myths and you have garnered quite a following of high poverty, struggling readers who loved your story! The kids will be beyond thrilled when I tell them that you responded to me and I will surely share some of this exchange with them. Thank you 100 times over for writing something I so enjoyed and for helping some very disadvantaged kids escape for just a moment. Happy holidays and very warm regards!

Scott Hawkins Hey Jacqueline,
That's really cool! I would LOVE it if Mt Char got some kid(s) interested in reading. If there's anything I can do to help, I'm available?

Jacqueline McAlister Maybe our school can arrange a Skype call with you? Or even an open chat room online? For these kids to speak with a published author would be an unbelievably awesome event. Perhaps I can contact your agent?
