You know, you may not *technically* be wrong. I imagine the West to hold their A's differently from the South (mentioned in book one, I believe). In the West it likely be more of an ALL sound than the stronger/shorter A sound. So, you could always say you're pronouncing it like a Westerner would? ;D
But, I imagine Aldrik introducing himself with the shorter/stronger A sound having grown up in the South.
