Anna I feel it oddly comforting to know that one of my favorite authors feels the same kind of insecurities that I do.

Patricia Willers Great question, Kathleen. I have this same fear! Thanks so much for your response, Jennifer. It's interesting that you use the word "voice." I find that what I'm reading does affect just that, as well as dialect, vocabulary, etc. If I might ask, do you ever cater your reading to what you're writing?

Linda Juliano I can relate, Jennifer. I've experienced the same situation. I also find that when I'm reading something closer to what I write (and my writing style) I feel so much more inspired to get busy writing. It's far more inspiring than reading something I see as "above my skills", that's for sure. Thank you for sharing and reminding the rest of us authors we just might be normal. ;)

Janice Elgort dubroff This is so helpful! Thank you, Kathleen, for asking a great question and Jennifer, for your lol, oh so honest answer! I go through phases...fr'instance after reading DeMille while writing, I found my chapters shrinking in size until I started reading Garcia Marquez and they expanded in size once again.

Lynette Hoy Amen on the Urgent Care... instead of the book. So true. I am writing my memoir, long story and a great one... title is (which you bet your sweet a-- I bought the domain for) "The Good The Bad and My Dad". I am going to another class before I finish it next year. AND I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED In Her Shoes. It really spoke to me. I seemed to be a complete combo of those sisters... loved it. You are brilliant Jennifer.
