This definitely is NOT a rape book. The rape at the end of Outlander is necessary to the character's development. I won't spoil it for those who have not read or watched on Starz, but Jamie loses the last of his innocence and is man and hero. This allows the relationship between Claire and Jamie to deepen and mature. I wasn't sure watching Season 1, but am now hooked!
