message 1: by Maureen (new)

Maureen Elena seems too self involved. She appears to whine when things don't go her way. Her daughters are secondary to herself

Louise As readers I feel we have to remember that there is a certain power in the first person narration. We only see Lila through Elena's eyes and emotions.

Muriel Areno Excellent observation, Louise.

message 4: by Carmen (new)

Carmen I think Lila is mostly a very good, affectionate, friend. When it comes to Nino, however, she has no scruples. She plotted to take him from Elena in book 1, knowing Elena was too shy to protest. In this book 4, Elena, seeing Nino for what he is still arranges time for him to see his daughter, Imma. Lila immediately inserts herself to flirt, ignoring Imma's needs, and certainly her own daughter.. who she lost at that moment. Bad karma. The author seems to have lost that meaning during her ponderous, long winded explanations
