Irene Kovacs I didn't like the book and you summed up succinctly exactly why I didn't. Excellent review.

Greg Dianne, I agree with everything you say. Terrible book on numerous levels: the writing, the plot, offensive dialogue, I could go on and on. And I don't believe at all that Harper Lee went from "Watchman" to "Mockingbird" in only two years. I believe Lee tried to copy Capote (specifically "Other Voices, Other Rooms') and came up with a real stinker, then Capote stepped in and rewrote "Watchman." I know how hard it is to write, and one doesn't go from being a bad writer to being a great one without a tremendous amount of "help". (I've never had anything published, I'll admit, I'm a bad writer, and I've tried for many years.)

Lisa Although I enjoyed the memories of the Scout and Jem we knew, the older Jean Louise seemed whiny... and this Atticus broke my heart.... I listened to the book on CD, and literally was crying while driving for most of the last half of the book.

Lisa Thank you. I don't think I've ever wished I hadn't read a book before.

Angie Me neither. I want to erase it form my memory.
