What's sad about Dolores is that she also came from a bad place. Even though she had a relatively good life before Humbert Humbert came into her life, her mother was awful to her. I feel that Dolores just needed a healthy home life and I don't view her as a spoiled brat. I've only finished part one, so I could be wrong on a lot of things. It's hard for me to read at times.
I think what I meant about brat is how the author portrays her as a brat, and he almost makes me you feel bad for the pedophile. Then you're like.....waaait. It's a yucky feeling.
