I agree, Becky. I read the book because it was on a list of "If you liked Gone Girl, then you should read . . ." But, like you, I wouldn't call this one a psychological thriller, or a thriller of any kind. I was interested in the story, but it never got my pulse racing. (Also, I don't understand why your response has been characterized as containing spoilers.)
