Based on my experience (including as an actual teenager), the narrator's word choices are plausible. Dumbed-down language, argot and routine use of lots of profanity among teenagers is a stereotype. There are lots of teenagers who know the meaning of words like "intermittent" and "catastrophic" and use them. In my experience, they do tend to use a bit more profanity than adults 25 and older (though there are some whose language is strictly G-rated), and sometimes they do both. There are other things that would tip off somebody reading the book closely that it's fake, though.
I like your example about the vocabulary. There were also weird entries where I was thinking, "She'd stop writing." She just kept writing about drug trips and her hospital stay; I think in real life there would be bigger gaps between entries where some really horrible stuff happened.
That's not all proving it's a disguting scumbag hoax.
1. Nobody dishes out acid at a party willy-nilly to people who don't suspect they're getting it. LSD was too hard to come by and too expensive back then. Plus, you weren't about to risk someone reporting you to the cops about giving it out. Even druggies weren't that bloody stupid. Only someone who knew bloody f all about drugs would think that went on.
2. It is beyond rare for anyone to go directly from acid to shooting up. WTF? No, that's not how it works.
3. The scumbag hoaxer seriously thought she could get away with having 'Alice' try marijuana last and then find it the 'ultimate.' Please. Name one drug addict who did marijuana after acid, coke, speed, heroin and prescription meds, and thought it outdid all those.
Sparks was a manipulative liar and overall dirtbag who wrote what she did to generate fear and panic, nothing else.
