In the later books, Ivan seems like a much more intelligent Bertie Wooster -- getting into trouble for being a preux chevalier. How many times did Berties get engaged to save a girl with more curves than a scenic railway a spot of bother? It could be argued that Ivan too is always reliable to help a chum, relative or young lady in distress.
