The book is not about the animals, it is indeed about the Russian Revolution. I would agree with everything you have said, apart from that Old Major is representative of Karl Marx. Although this is a strong possibility, I would personally argue that he represents Lenin. Despite the fact that Marx came up with the idea of Communism, just like Old Major, the Russian people didn't respect Marx. They looked up to Lenin, as he led the Bolsheviks in overthrowing Tzar Nicholas II. The animals respect Old Major. Furthermore, Old Major's skull was put on display, just as Lenin's body was put in a glass case.
