Agreed. I read it at school at the age of 14, without much knowledge of the context and history it refers to. I didn't appreciate or enjoy it very much at the time. Now I know what it's really about, reading it is an entirely different experience. While any capable reader should be able to cope with it from a young age, there's a danger that children will take it too literally and completely fail to get the point.
