Sandra Agatha Christie may or may not have been racist, I will not pretend to know.
The title of the book was indeed inspired by the quirky Curtis Island, once known as either Negro or Nigger Island, located out of Camden Harbor, in Camden, Maine. The island was renamed Curtis in 1934 after Cyrus H. K. Curtis, publisher of the Saturday Evening Post, a long time resident and benefactor of Camden. The book and its original title should be pout back into context - when it was written, then when and why it was adapted to the US market.

Clare Snow Agatha Christie was racist, anti-semitic, homophobic, etc. I love reading her stories, but I hate some of them because of all that language and beliefs of the time.
