Yeah. Calum's a mind reader but imp he's seemingly manipulative and protective. I think he sees Kitt's despair and is somehow manipulating him into getting with Pae (who is not only on Calum's side but is also an ordinary with a reputation that, if he projects properly, will propel positive public views on Ordinaries), but I also feel as tho some part of Kitt wants it. Not only did he seemingly find comfort with Pae in Powerless when the attack happened, he genuinely trusted her. I don't think most of his grief was about his father's death, I think he was just tryna cover up his grief abt Pae's betrayal. Maybe he also hopes she'll treat him normally again. The only ppl who ever treated him normal were Gail, Kai, Andy, and Jax so maybe he liked Paedyn bcs of how real she is too. Besides, I always got the vibe he was kinda jealous of what his brothers have (what I mean is he wasn't really jealous of them but more so the treatment they get) and they mentioned it in Powerless too (abt how he dined and trained with them and seemed to want to blend in with them) so maybe some part of him hopes Pae is that normal/affectionate person for him? idk just speculating
Thank goodness I’m not the only one confused AF about the Calum thing. He’s some kind of advisor to Kitt now with no explanation? They talked like they’ve known each other forever, but when Paedyn mentions him around Kai, there’s no idication of recognition. It’s bothering me to no end that we didn’t get some kind of insight into this transition.
Kitt is definitely grieving in more ways than one. Who knows if Calum is manipulating using his powers/taking advantage of Kitt’s grief/if there’s a larger game being played here. There’s a lot more questions that came up in this book and will probably be explained in the last book. Lauren Roberts is keeping us on our toes and minds reeling with more questions.
maybe Calum has a better power? Like maybe he can manipulate minds but there's some catch. He could easily lie abt his power being a lesser one so long as he doesn't use the extra/full power he has. I mean, look at Pae; she had no power but EVERYONE-including Kai Azer, the weilder!- fell for her trick! Even Adena did until Pae told her when they were younger. the only person who didn't believe it was Mak, but he never rly met her.
