(view spoiler)[To add on, I think Other Mommy essentially broke Bela by killing her family (I think that was also her grandmother's body propped up in the coat closet?), and forced her to need a "friend," as Bela had once thought of Other Mommy. She never felt comfortable telling anyone that OM was her friend or going into that much, and I think that's maybe a comment on grooming and abuse? There was always a part of her that wanted to say yes to her friend to help her, and to fulfill the promises about her parents staying together. I also think Bela is basically repeating the cycle and making us question who or what OM used to be, because she is saying she's hoping to find a friend in a similar way. Maybe OM used to be a nice little girl like Bela, and she wasn't trying to "carnation" out of simple evil. I wish we'd gotten more about what kind of person she might have been; I might try to catch more on a reread. (hide spoiler)]
