I just read this book and don't recall any curse words.
Um...The "original cinderella" was one of the Grimm brothers stories which are well known for dark and horrific parts so I'm pretty you meant the disney version of cinderella.
Ummmm, the "original Cinderella" is not all "fairy's and pumpkins" like the Disney version. But overall a very good book, definitely something a 9 year old can handle, depending really on how mature they are.
