Reading over my answer, I think that, yes, Finn did read the letters and fabricated the road-trip. I’m actually not convinced Lily died, though. Sigred’s story made no sense. It’s possible Finn was just coming to grips with the fact that she’d left him (for a guy named Jack) and was killing her off in his head so he could move on.
