I'm also so confused. Like if he's *venin* can he control himself? Or is he now like Jack? Like this was so not explained well.
It seems like there is a progression for Venin, and the more power they draw directly from the source (ground), the less control they have over their 'human soul.' Since Xaden only drew power from the ground once, he's Venin, but still mostly himself. But in the last chapter he admitted that he was feeling the draw of the power in the ground and had to fight the urge to draw more. Since most people who turn Venin choose to because they want that untapped power, it's unclear how long someone who doesn't want to be Venin would be able to resist and stay mostly himself.
I am also unclear as to how this protects violet.

Can anyone just like that turn into Venin? Like they just decide to channel from ground and *Poof* they become Venin?
