S.A. I do have the "LoveDeath" anthology. I don't remember the story "Flashback" but I will dig it out. Frankly I thought the novel Flashback was a strange misstep for Simmons. I'm a long-time fan but I thought reading that novel was as enjoyable as someone hammering nails into my feet.

Midas68 (this response may apply to you and it may not, and if it does, would you care to acknowledge that truth, which I guess is a added/whole different question)

Well you have to ask yourself is that a unbiased opinion or a bigoted one.

I know from personal experience that most self described enlightened and tolerant types are the first to take offense and hate differing opinions.

So I guess the first question is do you consider yourself a Liberal.

S.A. What does this have to do with a discussion of a book? Compared to Simmons's earlier works, "Flashback" is awkward, rambling, and ill-conceived.

Midas68 If the book is about a liberal dystopia and you're a liberal, Then odds are you are going to hate it.

Hopefully you can understand it. Because the human race will not evolve until we look at our own faults more then others.

S.A. Hopefully you understand "Flashback" is a bad book. Have a lovely life.

Midas68 I'm not the biggest fan of Flashback, But it's far from a bad book.
To hate it so, would require quite a level of preconceived bigotry expecially when any of Simmons novels are better then 90% of the Sturgeon Crap that's out there..

Which this has basically been my point all along.

Hopefully you will understand that and have a Lovely Life 2.

P.S. I think the following quote sums up both sides quite well.

"Show me a Young Conservative and I'll show you someone with no heart. Show me a old liberal and I'll show you someone with no brains."
Winston S. Churchill

Eric "It's bigoted to oppose people with different opinions! Like when people showed their intolerance by trying to impose death on the Nazis and their allies just because, like all liberals, they were too close-minded to accept that some people might have different opinions about the proper role of Jewish people in society. Classic liberal hypocrisy! Opposing intolerance is the real intolerance! I'm sophisticated! Both sides!"

Eric "In FDR there does the greatest American friend we have ever known." -actual Churchill quote

Alas, he was a brainless liberal! I was dead wrong to pray for his electoral success! I totally should have prayed for a conservative from the America First Committee to win! They had the right idea! - the insane ramblings Midas68 would have us believe Churchill should have appended. Because of the pithy quote!

Midas68 Talk about "INSANE RAMBLINGS". Dude you have so much Hate in you that you probably would be to uptight for a racial supremacy group. I have a feeling you probably been socked in the jar on more than one Thanksgiving day celebration.

Geez.

Eric "I suppose I could address the content of the comment but I'm just going to resort to the very tactic I claim to be opposing and hope nobody notices!"

Nina This is so ironic especially considering what your page looks like.

Nina How many negative reviews of Stephen King's new book have you liked purely on the basis of politics? Hypocritical much.
