It shouldn't have though...the scar was only kept secret at first, but became known when the cops got tired of traveling to ID bodies & started asking about it over the phone! Or maybe Dan told him so he could take the fall as part of a bribery scheme.
How would Dan have access to him? Also the dementia scenes don’t come close to what most are like, but it is a novel. The moving of her car is also a mystery. A few “holes” but a fast read
Dan was a lawyer & had connections, that wouldn't have been a problem. Agree about the car & dementia, but the serial killer's confession was false...he didn't have anything new or unknown, & nothing he said could be verified after all the years.
