Haneen Shaimah Oh Thanks I get it now but I also have this theory. Did Voldemort send Bellatrix to torture Neville's parents or did bellatrix just do it herself. Its so sad what happened to them and I thought that maybe because Neville was born at the end of july like voldemort sent her to do it? Do you think thats why his parents were tortured?

Charlotte S Not all of this information is specified in the books, but we know that the torturing occurred shortly after Voldemort's disappearance in 1981. To me, it seems unlikely that Voldemort would have shared the detailed of the prophecy with his death eaters, even Bellatirx. It was stated the Longbottoms were tortured in an attempt to locate Voldemort's whereabouts, so it seems more likely to me that they were desperate and only used them because they were the first aurors they found and hoped they would have some information. Obviously they didn't know the right things...
As for whether Voldemort had already wanted and asked for the Longbottoms to be tortured, we can only guess. I personally feel that Bellatirix, Barty Crouch Jr. and the other captors did it from their own choices, in an attempt to locate and prove remaining loyalty to Voldemort.
I hope this has helped! :)
