Wh-wh-what?! "straightforward language"? Only if you don't count the ridiculously obscure words that don't even appear in the dictionary. And from the quote you give, "providential to itself" and "a common provenance in pain" - these are typical of the 19th-centuryisms that the author indulges in to make himself sound that extra fathom deep.

I agree Daniel, I happen to be a 15 year old boy and I find this book interesting due to its apocalyptic setting.
