Best comment I ever had. I will definitely pick this book up again. That was a question I posted several years ago, but your views can't be stated enough. I evolved since the brown girls mention scared me, thank God, and yes, we shouldn't tiptoe on words like eggshells as authors or as readers. Critical race theory in America has gotten so out of hand, I think more people are reevaluating why they were offended to begin with, and falling out of the trap.
Aw, thank you for the compliment. Your comment was posted on my birthday; what a coincidence. :) As someone who does champion many of the causes of "the left," I certainly wouldn't want to apologize for racist content in books, but I truly feel there was no racist intent on Lewis' part with the use of the brown girls as a symbol. And unlike many of my cohorts on the left, I AM vehemently against the censorship of fiction, canceling of authors for perceived offenses (which are often not true), and the insistence that all modern books need to be written and read through the lens of CRT. Nothing makes me more frustrated than seeing "rep" hashtags in book reviews, as if the only conceivable reason authors could have for writing literature is to further a political agenda.
