Oh, goodness, no, that helps a lot, actually. And I didn't mean for my question to be so upsetting! Grieving for characters -- besides being, obviously, a sign that the story's succeeded at bringing them to life in the first place -- it's cathartic and clean. You can go revisit every single moment you've spent with them!
