message 2: by Fizzgig (new)

Fizzgig My guess/research:
Biblical Hebrew- Blesser of the new moon.
Latin- Roman goddess, protector of infants.

Hoping Marissa replies since I love word etymology.

Dragon Knight hi

message 4: by INF8NITE (new)

INF8NITE I love your books really and i think Levana is a perfect name for the queen <3 :3

message 5: by Danielle (new)

Danielle Ironic how Levana the roman goddess was protector of infants... Just finished Scarlet, and am really enjoying the series, thank you!

message 6: by Gaia (new)

Gaia Koren In Hebrew Levana is moon.

message 7: by Lily Moritz (new)

Lily Moritz "Levana - Levana means 'white, moon.'" Hebrew Names for Girls (L-P): Hebrew Names for Baby Girls with their Meanings, Ariela Pelaia, http://judaism.about.com/od/lifeevent...

message 8: by Sapir (new)

Sapir in Hebrew, we mostly say "yareah", but Levana is a higher word for "moon", and it is also mean "white".

message 9: by Lily Moritz (new)

Lily Moritz That was my first thought; because 'lavan' is the Hebrew word for 'white.'

message 10: by Ayden (new)

Ayden levana doesn't mean white moon. its a homophone it can mean white, and it can mean moon.

message 11: by *Amelia* (new)

*Amelia* It does really fit her though.

message 12: by Brianna (new)

Brianna Ironically, actually, the name "Levana" is derived from a name from Roman mythology, and means "protector of newborn infants." Chilling, yet fitting at the same time.

message 13: by Wayong (new)

Wayong Weiss The name Ze'ev means wolf in Hebrew. It's spelled Zai'en, (Aleph?). & Vet.

message 14: by Me_awesome (new)

Me_awesome Levana means moon in hebrew and Ze'ev means wolf in hebrew.

message 15: by Meghan (new)

Meghan I found this with a Google Search: Levana is a Latin name that means 'raise up'. Levana was the Roman mythological goddess and protectress of newborns.
I thought it was kinda ironic, all things considered...

message 16: by *Amelia* (new)

*Amelia* It wasn't until about the fourth time I read the series that I realized how the name Cress was linked to Rapunzel

message 17: by Tianna Grace (new)

Tianna Grace Amelia: Wait I didn't get that. How is the name Cress linked to Rapunzel?

message 18: by *Amelia* (new)

*Amelia* Rapunzel and Cress are both herbs.

message 19: by Tianna Grace (new)

Tianna Grace Oh! I get it now thanks!

message 20: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Shea I love your books!!!! Why did the series have to end at Winter. XD

message 21: by Tianna Grace (new)

Tianna Grace Amanda Shea, I know right? I am re-reading the whole series and am on Winter- For the second time- and I once again am wondering why there isn't more? But then again Winter ended the whole thing really well and then there is Stars above so I guess I will survive. :) Although I would give anything for a (what happens next?) After everything Cresswell short story! I want to see that relationship Long term!

message 22: by LJF (new)

LJF While we're on the subject of names, Wolf's real name, Ze'ev, literally means wolf in Hebrew

message 23: by Tianna Grace (new)

Tianna Grace LJF, That is so cool! I didn't know that!

message 24: by LJF (new)

LJF Also Carswell (as in Carswell Thorne) literally means 'the well where (water)cress grows' in old english

message 25: by LJF (new)

LJF I'm trying to figure out the origins of Kai and Jacin, but nothing i'm finding sounds quite right- the meanings that make the most sense are Kai- 'unbreakable' in burmese, and Jacin- meaning either 'heather' in spanish, or a form of Jason, meaning 'healer' or 'to heal' in greek

message 26: by LJF (new)

LJF or, in Japanese, Kai has several meanings, including 'ocean' 'shell' 'restoration' 'recovery' and, occasionally used to mean 'worth'

message 27: by LJF (new)

LJF Ikr

message 28: by Mechanic Joe (new)

Mechanic Joe like Selene is in Greek myths as the moon goddess... well done!

message 29: by Mayra (new)

Mayra I checked, and Levana means 'to rise' and 'to lift'. Levana was the Roman goddess of newborns.

message 30: by Alina (new)

Alina Killa I don't understand. Most of the fairytales say that the queens real name was Revenna which means Queen sooooo.....? Any thoughts?

message 31: by Paloma (new)

Paloma I'm a writer and I do that, too!

message 32: by Lillian (new)

Lillian I speak Hebrew and I think it just means moon, I could be wrong though. Either way it's a great name!

message 33: by Katie (new)

Katie Levana does not mean "Queen of the Moon." It is Hebrew for "White" and means "Moon" only in a lyrical sense. Yare'ach is the Hebrew word for the Moon in a scientific and colloquial sense. It means "orbit."

message 34: by Cora (new)

Cora Mae I searched it up, and apparently (according to Google) it is a Latin name that means "To rise" although I could be wrong.

˚༚✧ ☆ Eliza Lee ☆ ˚༚✧ It mean moon or white. Still perfect.
