I agree with you on that...you have to read the book during an appropriate time in your life...I was in a job transition when I read it and it did make dig deeper into my own self and deal with a few things...
I completely agree with you. I do think it is so (time)related with the struggles you go through. And I also appreciate everyone's opinion, everyone can like or dislike it as much as they want. But there are also so many understandings!
Like the self-indulgence, the egoism and such - the book is about finding oneself, about giving time to oneself - basicly: be selfish once in a while. So yes, is she selfish in this book? Probably, but it is good to be selfish sometimes. Because we often forget ourselves. And we should be selfish once in a while.
And the fact that she is priviliged and doesn't even know it? She knows it soooo well. She knows it's a privilige to make this journey, she knows she is lucky to have this year.
I mean, it's like the author of The Happiness project said: with everything going on in the world, why should I be busy with my own happiness? Because you can't do anything for the people around you, the world and such, if you are unhappy. Whatever the reason. You can only be a change if you are a happy person, because then you have more energy to be of meaning for the people and the world around you.
But yes, I loved this book. It changed me as well, I've read it twice by now and I know I will read it again. It definitely changed my life, in a good way.
