Pat C. I just finished "The Girl on the Train". I'm curious which characters you found more sympathetic. While not in quite the same league as "Amazing Amy", these characters were not very appealing. The only one that seemed like a truly nice person was Cathy, Rachel's roommate. I thought Rachel had a pretty snotty attitude toward her considering how understanding, supportive and forgiving Cathy was towards her.

Alice Yes, I did like Cathy. I found Rachel somewhat sympathetic though maddening, but then again I'm close to someone who's an alcoholic so maybe that's why. I did feel like shaking her a lot of the time, and Cathy was much nicer than she had to be. I felt sort of sympathetic to both Scott and Megan in different ways even though I didn't like them. Maybe they all just seemed more sympathetic because I didn't loathe them like I did everyone in Gone Girl. :-) Now that you've read it, did you like Girl/Train better than Gone Girl?

Marie I felt exactly the same way about Gone Girl. It was truly awful. The characters, the plot, everything was bad and I wanted them all to die horribly!! Now, I don't know whether to read Girl on the Train or not...

Mary Okay so here is a thought, if the author was able to make you feel that much emotion isn't that brilliant? (Putting the likeability of the characters aside) This is Why I like Steven King so much. He is great at character building.

Louann Darras I loathed Gone Girl too. Girl on the Train is a bit better.

M Ha! Me too. "Gone Girl"

Paula This is so funny- because I feel the exact opposite! For all the reasons you guys mentioned! I liked the vengeful psychopathy in Girl Gone, becasue it gives me free reign to hate that evil &$% and I couldn't stand the insipid stalker in Girl on the Train. I would hate to be friends with ANY of them, in either book, but in Girl/Train the main character just struck me so pathetic I felt bad for being disgusted by her.

Alice44 I also loathed "Gone Girl" but enjoyed "Girl on the Train."
