I agree with your entire answer. I, too, believe she fought for her life and my hope is that she won. I usually skim through the inevitable fight scene that always happens when the killer is revealed. 99% of the time, the MC lives; plus, I'm here for the mystery, not the physical fights and 'suspense' of the final fight that always ends in the bad guy loosing.
