S., you can be my "L." Ha. Anyway, it was a slog, Cusk annoyed me a bit for some reason, but I kept reading to the end. Just read "The Temporary," and earlier one, and the writing was more manic to read but the characters slightly less un-likeable. Good luck!
I think the AUTHOR is the self-centered narrator.
