This was my take as well
Agreed on this take - it threw me off at first, especially as the story ends on that note, but since we've already read Leo-IRL's last message and know he's in custody, it feels like dark humor.
I don't think they had anything in common...Freddie's Leo was just another Fellowship guy down the hall being (maybe overly) friendly, & the other is a serial killer!
That's what I got out if it too!
