Daryn But what about the person Emmett got directions to the lake house from? It's kind of hard to forget a hornet yellow Studebaker...

Sheryl Thank you! I was stunned by the end, as it seemed sinister to put Duchess, who was unconscious, in a boat with a hole in it, but tipping the boat away from the hole with rocks. I believe Emmett had too much goodness in him to risk killing Duchess. And Duchess seemed strangely peaceful about knowing he would drown, as if it was just one more joke.

Lee I don’t buy the author’s logic here. Putting an unconscious man in a boat with a large hole in it is pretty dastardly. And since Emmett KNEW Duchess couldn’t swim if was clearly murder. This is a novel without a hero, and not only that, the morality tale is seriously flawed!
