Christine Gaza Are you a teacher or a parent? I'm really interested in this conversation. I've obviously read it and really want to teach it. My principal basically said "no way." My thought was…if we don't talk about it in schools in a controlled setting…where do we talk about it?

Dalea Neither. I'm not a teacher or a parent. So I guess I'm unqualified to really give an opinion. The reason that I would be wary is because I would read it on my breaks during work sometimes and I would be so upset by what I read, I had a hard time focusing when I went back to work. I agree with your rationale for teaching it, but I worry about the emotional impact it might have and it's effects on the students' other school work

Christine Gaza I agree! And you're not unqualified. I'm interested in your opinion! It's incredibly disturbing. I just think it's also relevant to high school kids now. I also think there is a "too soon" philosophy which I don't disagree with. Yet, my freshman weren't even born when this happened, so maybe it's too far removed for them? I really don't know the answer.
