Hi Paula, yes, an unpublished writer, but a writer nonetheless. I read The Witch's Daughter about a year ago, but just can't let go of Gideon. I mull over his character and the restraint that you showed in his portrayal, on a regular basis. His is the exact connection to character that I search for and read extensively to find. Thank you so much for Bess's story and the role that Gideon played in it. For a few lingering moments I find myself wanting to believe that he actually saw something in Bess that he could care about. I wish that he had a buried benevolence that would force him to help her and care for her out of integrity and honour rather than glean power from her. I think it is the belief that the Big Bad can be "fixed" or "tamed" by some feminine TLC that draws us to the dark characters. We should just realize that they are all dark and beyond redemption, but that doesn't make for great fiction!
