I think you're making a valid point. There was the foreshadowing slightly earlier of Duchess's similarity to the Pastor. Each of them set the stage for their demise through their self-serving interpretation of justice. (less)
Agree. Emmett should have been absolutely livid that Duchess had taken all his money and his Studebaker!
Also, Emmett was indirectly responsible for another death, which led to his time in Salina. I think it's almost the same thing. It wasn't his intention, but he was the agent of the death.
