Susan I don't think it would have taken long to set up; the boat already had the hole in it, all he had to do was dump Duchess in the stern, along with some rocks and put the money in the front. Duchess could have stayed still, and in fact, the wind would have blown him to the OTHER side of the lake eventually, so he could have just been patient, except for the money blowing away. But why was the money blowing free? Aren't packs of bills always held with something? Bands? It would be crazy to just put loose money in the boat....

Libby The boat with the hole and the painted rocks were already mentioned, so they were right there. Not much time to set that up.

Duchess could have splashed water on the bills to keep them from blowing away.

Bobbye Trotter The money had been in the safe for years put there by Worley’s father or family so not necessarily in packs. If they were Emmett loosened the bills on purpose. So, I guess you could say he inadvertently killed Duchess because he wanted the money to blow away & Duchess go after it. He wanted to start a new life with Billy and Duchess would probably have looked them up in CA when his money ran out, which it undoubtedly would. There, case solved. Ha Ha!

Pearl Did Emmett take from Duchess' share what Duchess acknowledged he owed him? Thus some of the bills were loose, not bound by rubber bands.
