Gabrielle I agree with this analysis. I also think that in the mind of the narrator, the House is equivalent to God. I think that's the message we readers are supposed to get from the book -- that God, beauty, and kindness are everywhere, if we choose to look at the world that way.

Gabrielle And please note -- I'm not a Christian myself! But I see references throughout the book to the writings of CS Lewis, who certainly was. For example, the head of Adde... whatever is his name was seems like a reference to the head in Lewis's "That Hideous Strength."
