imagine having to lie and say you didn't notice dozens of times King mentioned Donald Trump in this book. That's sad. I don't know why you'd bother to comment when there's no way you could have read the book and not noticed. I feel sorry that this is the way you need to get attention.
It’s not dozens of times. I did a search on my kindle and the word Trump is mentioned 14 times, and one of those times it’s a verb, not referring to the man. Two of the 14 times he’s talking about Melania. You are calling other people liars and sad and you don’t even have your facts straight.
10 Mentions in a book of a president is enough to break suspension of reality and destroy immersion much less 15-20 regardless of the length of the book - so you're wrong, kiddo.
I listened to the audio book. Maybe the references would be very upsetting to people adore Trump but I honestly didn't believe they were that critical. Michael Connelly's latest Micky Haller novel is much more critical. Authors are human beings and they have a right to their political beliefs like any of us do. I've read conservative authors and liberal authors. As long as they tell a good story, sign me up.
I'm a boomer and I don't like trump. My best friend is a boomer, she doesn't like trump. In fact, only one person in my social group of boomers was a trump supporter. Please don't lump us together. I know ageism isn't one of those things that it's okay to still be prejudice against, but please understand it is just another form of hate, and in most cases not deserved.
What about the readers who aren't American and don't give a shit about your presidents?
I don't like Trump, or care about him. Yet Stephen King does keep shoehorning little jabs into his stories of late. It is a little intrusive. It's not ruining the story but it is jarring.
I come on Goodreads to avoid nasty name calling! Then called a Karen Boomer----That is just plain nasty. My conservative neighbors call me names and insult my education and occupation when they can't think of anything else to say!
@Carson hall She did say his "boomer supporters" and I am sure he had his share of them, and I know a few of them, yet it sounded insulting to me.
Someone born in 1946 had different life experiences thn someone born in 1964. Often people who complain about boomers have parents who fit in that category. We all be different.
I definitely noticed it, and it's far more than 20. If you read the comment closely, the reader was about 10% through the book. I'm also not a Boomer, nor do I support Trump. I'm an independent Milennial who cites King as my favorite living author. The issue with Holly, and I'm reading it now, is that Trump, COVID, and a host of other politically charged subjects are used as shorthand for "bad guy." In the world I live in, I'm surrounded by Trump supporters, rural Nebraska, and many of these people are friends. Supporting Trump is not a shorthand for "bad guy." At worst, it's self-interest, and at best it's a person weighing the pros and cons and finding the pros outweighing the cons. Trump was a lifelong Democrat before flipping to the Republican party, and that alone should be reason to consider the theatre with more nuance. I know your comment is two-years-old, but calling a person a snowflake because they ask a sincere question reflects your bitterness and closed-mindedness, not that person's "flawed sensitivity."
