Maria Rose I would hope that in the audiobook they would play the actual musical notes that are presented in the book. That would help explain how Ryland Grace figured out a translation of the notes so he could understand.

Mary Beth Rocky's voice is actually dissonant chord clusters. The "chords" change while he's "talking" to indicate inflection. As Grace begins to understand Rocky with the help of the computer, we hear the English being spoken by the narrator, but with a funky, distortion. Very effective!

RandallsAround In the audiobook, Rocky speaking is musical chords played on something that sounds to me like some kind of an electric instrument or electric piano, then once you understand what Rocky is saying, it's represented as musical notes and then overlaying that, the correct english
