I meant when did historians learn - Belle always knew she was black but the Morgans did not - when did the Morgans find out - and it was after Belle died and they started tracing her roots.
I see!! Yes, they found out much later. Once I'm finished with the novel (I'm about halfway through) I'm going to go on a binge and learn as much as I can about this entire situation, lol. I find it all fascinating.
