Leslie Thanks! That's one frustrating thing about audio. It's very hard to go back and check things, Maybe when it's less in demand at the library I'll get it out and take a look. Right now there are 86 holds on 40 copies at mine and they only let you have new fiction for a week, so that's not too bad, as long as more people don't add their names.

Ameya Thanks Leslie. I looked out for who wrote it, and luckily noticed it was typed.
That would be frustrating. Maybe there's an eBook in your library with fewer holds? In my library there were more holds on this eBook tho there are usually fewer on eBooks. :) Sebastian is proved to be the murderer from the letter, I think

Leslie I thought it was pretty likely, and it seems to be pretty well settled within the book - just couldn't remember if there was anything outside of the letter. My library system doesn't tell how many holds on the ebook but says there's about a 12-week wait, so I'd probably be better off with the physical copy. Surprisingly, the NYC library, which I have access to as a NY State resident, despite being in Buffalo, *only* has the audio electronic version. (I listened to it on Scribd.)

Ameya Frustrating in such a big city library! I've been inside NYC CBD library. It's lovely.
I don't think there's any mention of Sebastian's childhood or the specifics of his crime/s earlier in the book. Please other readers, correct me with any specifics. It seems unlikely if he killed his mother at a young age, he'd not have murdered since. 18-19 years without another murder seems strange when he supposedly wanted to kill again - Mariana. People point to passion murders vs serial murderers. If he's both, he certainly held off for nearly 2 decades.

The maidens' murders are all at Zoe's hands of course. Though the letter points to Sebastian's culpability, he didn't even try to kill Mariana in London or Naxos, otherwise she'd have mentioned it.

Rhinnan Sebastian didn’t strangle Mariana’s father; he smothered him. Regardless tho, there’s no way that a doctor would not know the difference between the two kinds of death.

Rebecca It obviously wasn't true that Sebastian only went out with Mariana because of Zoe, no matter how much Zoe appears to think so. They met at Cambridge at the end of their first year, so around 19 years old, and Zoe is around 19/20, with Mariana telling Fred she's 38 (maybe 37?), meaning that even if Fred met Zoe early on in the relationship, she'd only be a baby or a toddler. I mean, maybe it's possible but...I'd rather not think about it.
