Ashley Justice That's a good point. Perhaps Verity did not think anyone would ever find it? Of course, even then, she did a poor job of hiding it. Perhaps it's a writer thing? I'm no professional writer, but I think I would have said something in my manuscript to indicate it was a work of fiction or that I didn't mean everything I was writing...

Reagan That is such a good thought! I never even thought about that. If it really was just a writing exercise why didn't she label it as such.

C Yes, exactly!! If you're writing such crazy things as a "writing exercise", anyone would have the good sense to make that VERY clear in the beginning itself or at the very least tell Jeremy that she is keeping this fake autobiography, because it is obvious that such a manuscript would devastate everyone around it if found

message 4: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Bastone The scar!!!! The scar is proof that the letter was a lie. If the manuscript was fake then that means she didn’t try to self abort. But she did. Because the girl was born with the scar.

zelle I completely agree

Ashley Plaisance One of the many ways I find that letter to be a really sloppy "twist" ending. If you're just doing a writing exercise, why write it as a structured biography? You beg your husband to read your work constantly...why not mention it to him just in case he stumbles across it? Why would your husband ever suspect you murdered your child if there was no reason for him to be suspicious? Why would you continue loving him so much if he accused you of that and then tried to kill you?? If you were faking this mental state because you feared for your life, why would you sneak around antagonizing the new woman in the house? Seems like you'd be more afraid of getting caught. How was he able to crash the car in the precise way nearly killer her, with no injury to himself and no evidence that anything was tampered with or she was restrained? Was there no investigation into this terrible accident involving a famous and wealthy author after both her children died?? It all felt so sloppy.

Em Brown GREAT POINTS Ashley!!!!

message 8: by Beth (new)

Beth I found it unbelievable. There would have been a proper introduction if it was intended as a tool for writers. You don’t confess to the things she wrote about without making it utterly clear that it’s fake.

message 9: by Amy (new)

Amy How about checking with her editor who (allegedly) gave her the idea to write that way in the first place???

message 10: by Bella (Kiki) (new)

Bella (Kiki) It's is marketed as fiction. We know that going in.

message 11: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Arguelles My thoughts exactly!

message 12: by Marcin (new)
