Andrés Ospina The Hail Mary used pure O2 at 40% atmospheric pressure because that's what the Space Suit used. It's easier if you need to do unplanned EVA's and don't have the time to do the decompression phase that astronauts have to do in the ISS to remove all the nitrogen in their system.

Nicole Comeau This is just an inaccurate ommission on the authors part. 2 is not possible given that we know they used off the shelf instruments. Most electronics don't work well in lower pressure and oxygen environments because of 1) tendency of unprotected metals to burn 2) electronics rely on the electrical resistance of air to operate and designs suitable for earth are not suitable for low atmospheric pressure. As an electrical engineer this immediately stood out to me. It's not impossible to design for this atmosphere, but it does have to be done and we were specifically told it was not.
