I personally love the HP books. But, I had already seen (and loved) all of the movies before I read anything from that series. So that probably altered my perception. Had I not seen (and already enjoyed) the movies, I may not have had the same experience.
I read the books in order when they first came out, and I like the concept, I just couldn't get into the writing or the world building. I am probably the only one of my friend group who feels that way to be fair! Everyone else enjoys them.
I was thinking a good contender for bad books was one I reviewed recently called Death On The Downs. It seemed liked someone had taken a story meant for a women's magazine aimed at the elderly and then published it.
As you say, I don't like to be too negative either, it's just I seem to be coming across a lot of poorly written books these days.

It's interesting that you chose a HP franchise book as, although not the 'worst book' I did struggle with all the HP books. I read the first three, in my mind they were good for getting kids into literature, but were not exactly the best thing since sliced bread.
I have been an advanced copy reader for a loooot of people, and some things just should not be put into print!
