If it's marked as YA, it doesn't matter how the cover looks like; 8-10 year olds shouldn't be reading it. YA stands for Young Adults and last time I checked, 8-10 year olds aren't young adults
Also, the language isn't bad. I'd even say it's mild compared to other books. It just isn't appealing to you because it's not for you
