No, it's a fair observation. Few people would ever stop reading a good book because they don't like the language one of the characters uses occasionally. Puritanitanical religious fanaticism has been frowned upon for the last few centuries, since the unlawful witch trials of 150 people accused of immoral behavior in Salem. 27 people were murdered by the appointed governor of Massachusetts and three judges. In a similar vein, people who would censor books are scary. We all like to nip that fanaticism in the bud whenever we can.
If I ask you Robin if you were ever bullied are you think I bully you? And I want to ask that because Bret certainly wasn't bullying before, more surprised by strange question
It's only a strange question for people who have no or little empathy for others... For people who just can not fathom that not everyone is the same and just because they don't mind, everyone should not mind. You know, closed-minded people. I for one couldn't care less about profanity in Andy Weirs books. But the OP does. How does that effect me, or others, in any way? Does it hurt them? Why do they respond as if it a personal attack on them? Why be so nasty about it? Now THAT is the strange part!!
Wow! So you say Bret, me and other peoples who was surprised by this question are close minded and with little if any empathy. For me calling Bret bully is aggressive and close minded. Agree to disagree
No, he is saying that the original poster asked a question and was asking for an answer, not for a lecture or mocking. If you notice the op did not say a book with a lot of cursing should not be published or that others should not read it.
calling bret a bully for not understanding why you would put a book down because of inappropriate humor, in my mind, is the same as calling someone a bully for having an opinion that is different than yours. and, in response to what serewyn said, how is calling someone a bully less close minded than having an opinion?
