i think she wanted to focus on the general stigmatization of mental illness in society as well as how un/misdiagnosed mental illness can upend a life rather than distract ppl with attempting to accurately portraying a specific mental illness. it sounded to me like she took the extreme stigma attached to schizophrenia with the presentation of borderline personality disorder (more than bipolar).
