Stéphanie Yes, I agree. Klara's will to want them to live influenced the universe so to speak. And again right with you..I have no real impression of what the manager's limp represents or the images Klara sees in the barn. She was so very attached to her store, it must be in this narrative somewhere. Definitely a book that sticks with you forever. It will be a Remains of the Day, The Goldfinch, All the Light We Cannot See kind of book for me. Thanks Nicole!

Liz Nichols Well I would have agreed with you until the bedroom scene when Josie is saved by the Sun. I assumed the Beggar Man and dog were just sleeping and Klara in her naivete just thought they were saved (being an atheist it was easy for me to assume that). But now I am not sure, but wonder if the Sun truly is the (at times) loving, inconsistent, but interventionist God in this novel. Or at least that is as believable a "truth" as any other - forcing me to confront the shaking ground my own "truth" is built on. That seems to be a consistent Ishiguro theme in all his novels.
