Libraries are closed to patrons in the building, but in our county (and many others) we can put books on hold and pick them up at a covered table outside by appointment.
My library is open for "take out." I order the book on line and get an email when it is available for me to pick up. Sorry your library isn't able to offer a similar service.
Kristen, I borrowed from the library all throughout the pandemic via Libby. It's an app I use on my Ipad. Libby is great.
My library system has had “curbside pickup” throughout the pandemic. I make requests online, the library emails when they are ready for pick up, and I phone When I am in the parking lot. Never missed a beat...
My library has downloadable ebooks and audiobooks. I read over 300 books; most were from the library last year.
Most libraries where you are maybe but here in Australia we were only closed for 2 months and then we initiated a click and collect service which lasted for about 6 weeks and then we were open to the public. During this time we added extra titles to our online platforms to allow greater access to our customers. I personally read this book online and we also have it available as an eAudio title as well as a hard copy in our collection.
Our library had curbside pickup throughout the pandemic, as well as ebook borrowing through cloudlibrary.
My local branch has never closed...went to curbside service for a few weeks then limited access. Has been opened with no restrictions for months.
Many public libraries found/are finding ways to get materials into patrons' hands, despite being closed or offering limited services, via e-resources, limited browsing, and curbside pickup of materials. (Source: I'm a librarian who's pretty keyed into what's happening with the field across the country!)
I read Midnight Library because of the great reviews but gave it a one-star rating because I genuinely disliked it both the writing and how hokey the end was.
Tanvi R Our library did what you're describing. Returned books were "quarantined" for a certain # of days, then could be checked out using curbside pick-up.
EDIT (haven't figured out yet how to edit a comment after it's been posted): Our library also had an informative section at the beginning of its website, explaining how to use other library services to read/checkout books during this period &, of course, use of e-books was stressed.
Our library was closed for in person browsing during much of last year, but there were still librarians working inside, and curbside pick-up of reserved books. That is still possible, even though they are open again right now.
Our little hick-town library allows contactless digital downloads. :-|
