Exactly what I thought through most of the book!
She said that couple was written off the show.
This is the show I thought of too! It was filmed in LA too.
There’s no therapist, except for the one Robin ends up dating.
There’s only one therapist on the show and that’s Kal Penn’s character. In the book, the therapist on the show that the main character goes to is a woman iirc. Even if we assume the details were changed to hide the identity of the person or the plot of the show, it cannot be HIMYM. It doesn’t add up. Plus it was shot in NYC and John is in LA.
"the sociopathic character who’s become softer around the edges is talking to his brother—a person we hadn’t known existed until a couple of episodes ago." - Barney has a mysterious brother that appears in a later season.
